Technical Assistance Related to SPP Indicators and Determinations
As required in Sections 616(e)(1) and 642 of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), if the Department determines, for two consecutive years, that a State needs assistance, the Department must take one of a number of specific actions. One of the three possible actions is to advise the State of available sources of technical assistance that may help the State address the areas in which the State needs assistance. Each State’s June 2008 Determination Letter informed the State if the Department is advising the State to access technical assistance because the State has been identified as needs assistance for two consecutive years. Of course, technical assistance sources identified on this page may be useful to any State working to improve performance.
The following are links to web sites that describe technical assistance resources, including services and products that are available to assist States in their efforts to improve performance on State Performance Plans (SPPs).
Each State identified as needing assistance for two consecutive years is responsible for determining the technical assistance appropriate to meet the State’s improvement needs and for informing OSEP, in the next Annual Performance Report (APR), of the technical assistance sources from which the State received assistance, and what actions the State took as a result of that technical assistance. A State’s use of any technical assistance resources from this site, including services and products, is voluntary, even if the State is required by its June 2008 Determination Letter to access technical assistance. States are encouraged to answer Overarching Analysis Questions to assist with determining the technical assistance needed. A list of indicator specific drill-down questions can be accessed under the "Investigative Questions" tab for each individual indicator.
